Naha City

The name means “golden forest” in Okinawan, and the playground is surrounded by giant trees. Stairs lead to the bottom of the park where most of the playground equipment is located. The top has an open field.

This park has a nice slide, swings, and a small combination playground. The wide open grass area is also popular. When you aren’t playing you can sit on the benches and cool off in the shade.

At the center of the park is a pudding shaped cement slide. It’s not steep so you can climb up and then slide down in any direction. There are also swings and a double slide (see picture). If your kids like pudding as much as mine do, your kids will get a kick out of this park.

Tsubogawa Naka Park feels like an oasis in the middle of Naha. The playground is unique and fun and is conveniently located near highways 58, 329 and 330. As you might imagine, this park is popular!

Donguri means “acorn” in Japanese, although nothing at this park seems to resemble one. Tradition playground equipment is limited but if you want a unique experience this is a good park. Also, if you have trouble finding it look for the giant electrical tower and that will guide you to the park.

Tabaru used to be a Japanese military bunker and you can still see the caves leading into the hill at the center. Now it is a beautiful park with a giant cement slide and playground. This particular cement slide is great because the landing zone at the end is longer than most so you actually have time to slow down instead of immediately coming to a stop by flying into the sand. Tabaru is both fun and relaxing.

Oroku Wakaba is a classic Naha park, small but unique, not well-known but unforgettable. At its center is a giant metal tube that is accessed by climbing the ropes on the side and ends with a slide into the sandbox.

This park is very popular with local kids, and the boys enjoy improvising and climbing on the stone monuments. This park could use more playground equipment but the giant cement slide will keep your kids busy.

This park is small but fun. There is a colorful combination playground. Check out the cool bathroom and unique water fountain.

The bathroom here is a little green and yellow wooden cottage. The cement slide is right under a tree so it’s cool even in summer. There are a few other things for little kids to play on.
